In December 2023 we lauched our first acting workshop for children, starting the age of 4! They did theatrical warm-ups and games tailored for them, to awaken their dramatic and social skills and to create awareness in physical expression, communication and self-esteem. Furthermore they expanded their senses while using the space and played word games with lots of Portuguese tongue twisters.

Marionettes Workshop for children

We had a weekend full of marionettes! The 3 rules were: 1) We're here to have fun. 2) No comparisons. 3) Don't touch the sharp tools box!
With an easy technique, recycled materials and easy to find stuff, we made nice string puppets that can dance and act. Kids could choose what character they wanted to build, ranging from sophisticated birds to kangaroos with a baby in a pouch to two-headed dragons. Such a joy to see parents and children playing together!

We had our first psychodrama workshop in Lisbon... in Romanian!
What a journey, literally and figuratively, to make this possible and we are so grateful to Simona Burduja for joining us in this adventure at Academia Transformar!
A place where magic happens, where you can be anyone and anything, where stories are told and lived and life is seen from different angles, heights and colours. I hope that this time next year to have done many more of these adventures!

Workshop ''Awareness through motion''

The body teaches the brain and the brain reorders itself and teaches the body.

In this workshop of 8 hours divided in two Sunday mornings we used a learning process based on a theater tool called "Awareness Thru Motion". This is the combination of body expression techniques like Grounding, Sensitometry, Awareness, meditation movements, the mask and martial arts techniques.

In the workshop the participants learned how to use their bodies to be more connected with others and with nature. They also discovered their own energy, language and dramatic capabilities, how to walk in a correct way, and to use their body and voices in new ways.

Our body talks with everybody daily and we aren't aware of it. Our emotions leak from us and we see other people's emotions but we can't read them. But we can learn it. Knowing how to "hear" and "talk" through our body is essential to be more confident, feel better and communicate more with others.

Teachers: Roberto Bacchilega, Joaquim Pedro Ferreira, Alexander Singh. Acting workshop for everyone, from beginners to the more experienced, even Navi the dog joined. After two months of intense acting training and a few short theory lessons from Grotowski, our participants stepped out of many comfort zones and had a beautiful and unique growing experience.
This workshop had such a good energy and united the participants so much that we decided to continue in the same constellation and continue working during the summer on a full performance (''The departure of the master'') which was presented at AstaroTheatro during the fall season, including at the INTER·NOS Festival in Amsterdam.

Workshop on Building Table Marionettes

This workshop was divided into three different moments: Construction, Manipulation and The Play Rehearsal.
It culminated with a performance for friends and family.
The Construction is done with a basic technique that allows newcomers to sculpt the different moving parts of the Marionettes in an easy and intuitive way. The students created the character, built it and painted it to a very high standard.
The Manipulation classes used a Awareness Through Movement technique that taught the organic movement of the actor and the puppet to the students.
Then in quick succession a short play was rehearsed and props and tabletop scenery were created for the performance that culminated at the end of the Workshop.
And in this alchemist process, the residual matter and energy was probably art.

Workshop of Cardboard Marionettes

A cardboard marionette workshop where using a traditional children’s story we create cardboard marionettes, props and scenery. Using moving parts and painting them with acrylic painting, the final result is striking and easy to use to create a play.
